Microsoft used to be considerate enough to allow you to click on a button to give you another 15 minutes before it reboots your computer. But this time it allowed just 5 minutes - and the option to postpone the reboot was disabled!
I quickly closed all the files I was busy with and made it with just a minute to spare. I let it reboot into Ubuntu so that I could finish my work.

Since Windows 95, Microsoft have provided a client program for Remote Desktop Connection. With a simple URL or IP address, user name and password you could get full access to a suitably configured server. But now with Vista it seems like the server must be also running Vista because when I try to connect I get the following message:

If I select "Yes" the connection fails as if the password is incorrect, without further reason.
Fortunately the remote desktop client that comes with Ubuntu works perfectly.

I really like the Gnome GUI interface that comes standard with Ubuntu Linux. I now use Ubuntu Hardy Heron whenever I can because it just works without having a mind of its own that keeps breaking networking and rearranging file browser layouts. But some programs are only available for Windows and that forces me to periodically switch back to Windows.
In order to reduce the trauma I have tried to make Vista look more like Ubuntu. I hope Canonical don't mind that I am using an Ubuntu background colour!
